The first English Sculpture Trail was set up in the late seventies in the
South Lakes Forest of Grizedale with most sculptures
constructed outdoors from natural and indigenous materials. A second Trail followed in the
Forest of Dean. With the inception of the Cowleaze
Trail - at the start of the nineties - as the third example of a collaboration between the Forestry Commission and artists, the Trust decided on
an experimental approach. Thus it was decided to offer a unique environment in which to experience and enjoy contemporary sculptures that reflected,
complimented and challenged their natural setting. Click the banner below to go to the sculptures page.
