Launched in July 2003, this site was commissioned by The Chiltern Sculpture Trust and designed by
Paul Smith of
www.SnapsAndBytes.co.uk. It was his intention to bring to the Internet
something more than just a catalogue of the works in Cowleaze Wood. Rather, through this electronic medium
he wanted to create a 'digital extension' of the Chiltern Sculpture Trail. By adding many elements to be 'discovered' by the visitor,
he has mirrored the feeling of exploring the actual woodland, while audio and video clips of
some of the sculptures build towards this illusion.
The virtual tour feature takes the visitor around the current sculptures in a sequence which would make
sense when visiting the wood, and the inspired page brings deeper insight into the educational and
inspirational nature of the Trail.

It is hoped that users of this site will be able to experience and visualise the sculptures in a way
that a more conventional site cannot convey. Techniques like
Rotorscope videoing
of works brings a new spacial dimension to the relationship between the sculptures and the woodland environment. Other
pieces have the same method applied to them to communicate their three-dimensional form in a way not normally possible
in the two-dimensional 'world of the wide web'. More details on this, and other ways the sculptures and their surroundings have been recorded for
this web site, is available here.
If you experience any problems using this site, such as missing files or faulty links,
please e-mail: technical@chilternsculpturetrail.co.uk.

Updates to the site, as well as the Trail itself, are listed on the latest news page.
